Meet Principal V. Tanaia Hines

Hines

We are half way through the school year and our Bellevue Dragons are making wonderful progress in the castle!  We have been implementing our new STEAM program, a student-centered, project-based instructional model that integrates Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics. Make sure to ask your child what project have they completed and have them explain the process.

The goal for our STEAM program has been an opportunity to give our students exposure to a wide variety of experiences that peak their curiosity.  We want their new curiosities to continue beyond the classroom walls.  We want students to think about their thinking, ask questions and seek out the answers, and try out their new ideas.  If those news ideas don’t work out exactly as they’d like, we will encourage our students to try again until satisfied.

Our teachers have been engaging our students in compelling, real world content and literature that brings global and cultural awareness, promotes open-mindedness, and requires our students to be reflective thinkers.

Bellevue is a community school and we practice the traits of Caring, Respect, Responsibility, Trust, and Family. Let’s continue to work together even harder to strengthen our partnership and commitment in order to make the rest of this school year great for our Bellevue scholars! We appreciate your patience, support, and grace as we move forward together.  Team Bellevue...Stronger TOGETHER!

If I can assist you in any way, if you have any questions, concerns, or just want to say hi, please feel free to contact me at vhines@rvaschools.net or 804-780-4417.

Yours in service,

Principal V. Tanaia Hines

Meet Assistant Principal Vercynthia B. Penn

We are so thrilled to have Assistant Principal Vercynthia Penn here at Bellevue! Here's some background about here: She joined Bellevue Elementary in 2017 as assistant principal and has served students in Richmond Public Schools for the last 21 years.  During her 25 years in education, Mrs. Penn has served as an elementary teacher, a school counselor, and interim principal.

Mrs. Penn received her bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies K-5 and a master’s degree in elementary school counseling from Virginia State University.  She has also earned certification in Educational Leadership from Virginia Commonwealth University.

She believes that every child can experience success if they encounter a caring adult that is consistent and intentional about helping them accept their greatest potential. And while one may not always realize the true impact of their connection with a child in the moment, that does not mean that the words, actions, and sentiments will not resonate with the child later in life.  Just keep caring!!

Mrs. Penn enjoys trying new recipes, watching movies, walks in the park, and spending time with family during her free time. Bellevue wouldn't be the same without her!

If she can assist you in any way, if you have any questions, concerns, or just want to say hi, please feel free to contact her at vbrandon2@rvaschools.net or 804-780-4417.

Yours in service,

Assistant Principal Vercynthia B. Penn
